Food📍 Junín plateau (Lake Junín), Peru
Maca, a turnip-like root now sold worldwide as a powder, grows at 4,000 metres, where frost and wind defeat most crops. Until the late 1980s it was farmed only around Lake Junín in central Peru, where it is still roasted in earth pits.

Invention📍 North coast of Peru (Huanchaco to Pimentel)
Fishermen on Peru's north coast have used caballitos de totora, 'little reed horses', for about 3,000 years. They sit astride the bundled reeds, paddle out through the surf to fish, then ride the waves back to the beach.

Invention📍 Buenos Aires, Argentina
The first feature-length cartoon wasn't Snow White (1937) but El Apóstol, made in Buenos Aires in 1917 by Quirino Cristiani from 58,000 frames of cut-out animation. Its only copy was lost in a 1926 studio fire.
